Medal of Valor awarded to Orondo Fire Captain

A Medal of Valor has been bestowed upon Orondo Fire Captain Scott Carter for his actions at the scene of an auto action on U.S. Highway 97 on July 13, 2024.


“He found a serious two vehicle head on collision, both vehicles on fire, with occupants in immediate danger of engulfment,” Fire Chief Jim Oatey said in awarding the medal to Carter.  “Captain Carter was able to pull fire hose from his apparatus and single handedly keep the flames at bay until additional fire apparatus and firefighters arrived.”


Two occupants in the car were transported to the hospital with a third dying from injuries in the crash..


“Captain Carter was Battalion Chief at the time of this call, having a rescue and brush truck at his residence, making for a quick response to perform lifesaving firefighting efforts,” Chief Oatey added.


Captain Carter is a 22-year veteran of the Orondo Fire Department.
