Lookout home, e-bikes damaged in Chelan fire

"Everyone heard a loud boom, and right away noticed smoke pouring out of the garage," Chelan Fire and Rescue Chief Brandon Asher reported following a fire at a home on Jackrabbit Lane in The Lookout neighborhood Tuesday night. "When I arrived it was clear we had a fire in an attached garage to a large two-story home."

Chief Asher said a neighbor rushed to the home to check for residents inside. "They opened the door from the interior to the garage, saw flames and quickly got out." It didn't appear anyone was home at the time.

"We were able to force entry into the garage with (a) circular saw and then get a fire attack on what appeared to be about 12 e-bikes that were next to the wall in the garage," recounted the chief. "We were unable to determine if it was a battery in an e-bike or the charging system. They were all plugged into some power strips."

"It (the fire) did get hot enough to start the sprinkler system," Asher said in helping keep the fire to the garage and a laundry room next to the garage. "There was no extension into the house."

Earlier, Tuesday morning, a Chelan Falls home caught fire.

"It was an exterior fire that ended up catching the porch area of the house (on fire), which then extended into the kitchen," according to Asher. "It also extended over to a small garage and caught a car that was next to the garage on fire."

Firefighters rescued a dog from the home. The dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment.
