Entiat Valley wildland fire decreases in intensity

The wildland fire burning closest to the Chelan Valley is the Little Giant Fire, northwest of Entiat, southeast of the Glacier Peak wilderness has burned an estimated 19,134 acres as of Sunday.

"We're looking more favorable," says fire behavior analyst Dennis Burns.

Burns says the greatest increase in fire activity and fire growth has been towards Rampart Mountain.

In the Entiat valley, firefighters and dozers have constructed and are improving containment lines.

"This is a mastication line; a machine that actually grinds up the brush and things like that," added Burns. "A line that we can potentially hold the fire on. We've actually constructed hand lines down to Twin Lakes and they're going to plumb that line so there will be water on that line."

To the east, the fire continued to progress over Chikamin Ridge, and linear growth to the south in the Chiwawa River Valley.
