Manson Fire hires new Deputy Chief

Manson Fire District 5 has hired a new Deputy Fire Chief. Michael Williams will assist Fire Chief Arnold Baker.
"The needs of the district is what drove us to look at getting this position filled," said Fire District 5 Commission Chairman Chris Willoughby. "It's come to a point where we needed to hire someone full time in a chief's position. Manson is growing. The wild land is getting closer to town and we need (fire protection) specialties; we need more training, we need a good staff to support that, as we see the needs grow."
Williams retired as a Division Chief from Alameda, CA Fire Department in 2024 after 32 years serving in Emergency Services and public administration positions. He started a Firefighter/Paramedic career with Alameda and progressed through different positions and ranks during his tenure.
"Michael has an extensive history of fire service, organizing and developing different programs and mentoring people," said Willoughby. "He has a vast background in training and instruction. He's going to bring a lot to what we need here in Manson."
Williams took part in developing the Alameda Fire Department paramedic program. He has also been active s a Rescue Specialist, working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in Oakland, CA, as well as fulfilling the role of Fire Captain over programs such as Emergency Medical Services, Training Officer, and Fire Boat Operator.
Williams will be serving in the new Deputy Chief position with a focus on Manson Fire department administration, operations and training.
The District 5 Commissioners wrote that, "Williams brings a proven track record of strategic planning, personnel management and leadership with a dedication to public safety, operational development and professional development."
Williams will earn $120,000 annually, plus benefits.
