A pedestrian safety project for Chelan High Middle School students and others has been awarded a Washington State Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) grant that will pay for a majority of roadside improvements at Farnham

Street and Webster Avenue in Chelan.

The city of Chelan will receive up to $317,261, covering 90% of eligible

project costs. The remaining project funding will be provided by the city.

Chelan Interim City Administrator Chad Coltman says the investment will enhance a key pedestrian crossing area adjacent to the schools, as well as the newly completed Lakeside Trail, improving safety, visibility, and mobility for

residents, students, and visitors traveling through the neighborhood and along the Riverwalk Trail. Project.

Specific improvements will be refined during the design phase of the project and may include upgraded crosswalk markings, rapid flashing beacons, curb improvements, advanced warning on the Dan Gordon Bridge, and other

pedestrian safety features.

“This grant allows the City to advance an important safety improvement for our community,” said Mayor Erin McCardle. “We are grateful to TIB for their continued partnership in supporting Chelan’s transportation and pedestrian infrastructure.”

The city will now begin completing the grant agreement process and initiating project design.
