Its been 10 years in the making. Improving the old swim hole and dog park properties along the Lake Chelan shoreline remains a priority for the Manson Parks and Recreation District.
The project has temporarily stalled as construction costs escalated to over $2 million.
Manson Parks and Recreation District Director Robin Pittman said the idea was to start construction next month, but with costs coming in higher than anticipated, an estimated $754,000 is still needed to fund all planned renovations.
Pittman says the plan is to add paved parking for visitors and ADA accessibility. A new seawall to improve public safety, a dock for kayaks and paddle boards and a boardwalk to Manson Bay Park.
"Water access has always been over a dilapidated seawall," said Pittman. "We will be replacing the seawall and adding one that has water entry stairs, and adding a ramp from the parking area."
"This project addresses erosion control and access improvements at the Old Swim Hole (many know this as "the dog park"). It will still be a dog-friendly park just as it is now. As for the marina, the breakwater is being replaced this upcoming fall," Pittman shared in a social media post.
Pittman said a request is being made with the Washington State Department of Commerce and state Recreation and Conservation Office for financial assistance. Private donations can be made through the Chelan County Treasurer’s Office.
