After several months of limited operations, meaningful progress is now underway toward securing a permanent indoor location for the Chelan Post Office.
Since March, the Chelan Post Office has been operating out of a temporary mobile unit while its original building undergoes necessary renovations. Though postal employees have continued to provide core services under challenging conditions, the need for a permanent indoor facility has remained a top concern for residents and staff alike.
In recent weeks, renewed collaboration between local, state, and federal partners has helped move the process forward. Together, Postmaster Randy Kopel and Chelan Mayor Erin McCardle identified a new possible location located in Historic Downtown Chelan that meets community needs for accessibility and convenience.
The USPS Facilities Department has accelerated the review and leasing process for this new site — a significant step toward restoring full postal operations in Chelan.
As to where the the post office may relocate, Chelan Communications Director Chad Coltman said Tuesday, "The postmaster won’t be able to share that until the arrangement is finalized with the landlord."
