Repairs to a rocky hillside along a stretch of South Lakeshore Road are expected to be completed within the next few weeks.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) reported late Friday that they have settled on a plan to reopen a section of the two-lane road that’s been closed due to rockslides since March 3rd.

WSDOT has secured funding for the project. Repairs are expected to begin as soon as a contractor agrees to an emergency repair contract. The fix could take up to three weeks to complete.

"it's what's called full mitigation, where you go back through and do an extensive scaling, netting and dowels," said WSDOT Communications Manager Lauren Loebsack. "That's done over that nearly three-quarters of a mile to a mile of problem slope. That cadillac job is really in the several millions (of dollars)."

The contractor plans to work 6 days a week to complete the weather dependent repair project.
