Manson Schools’ Superintendent Tabatha Mires has accepted a position as Assistant Superintendent with North Central Educational Service District (ESD) 171.

The ESD works with 40,000 students in the region in 29 school districts.

"It was a decision that was weighty and I wrestled with it a lot, I also know that the systems and the people and programs in Manson are going to be just fine," Mires told KOZI's Community Connection with Jeff Conwell. "I'm anxious to help and grow programs that benefit kids across the region."

"We have an incredible board and great staff, academic outcomes that are continuing to improve and outpace the state average with innovative programs, from our four-day week to our AI programming to our financial literacy," said Mires. "I'm leaving a place that I love. There is nothing that pushed me away from Manson, at all, nothing."

"It's hard to leave the people, the community, and the work, and I'm excited for the next opportunity," she added.

Mires will continue as Manson schools' chief through June.

Mires has been an active member of the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) since 2018 and has served in various association positions, including WASA Region 171 President, and most recently as a Washington State Superintendent Representative for the National Advocacy Network (NAN).

“With over a decade of proven leadership — including her current role as superintendent of Manson School District and previous superintendent roles in Palisades and Waterville — Tabatha Mires has consistently led with courage, clarity, and compassion,” said WASA Executive Director Jeff Snell.  “Every day, Tabatha demonstrates the core values of WASA: leadership, trust, and advocacy.”

In addition, Manson Middle School Principal Heather Ireland has accepted the Assistant Superintendent job at the Coupeville School District. Elementary School Prinicipal Ben Rippe will succeed Ireland, and the district is now searching for a new elementary principal and superintendent.

Chelan Middle School has been recognized by the Washington State Board of Education for outstanding progress in the academic growth of students.

The school district reported that only 16% of schools statewide earned recognition this year, making this honor a significant achievement for Chelan students, staff, and families.

Chelan Middle School also earned recognition for student progress among the top 10% of schools statewide in multiple academic measures.

Middle School Principal Terry Sanders said, “Our staff has worked intentionally to create high expectations. He added that the school staff has created an environment where all students feel connected and supported.”
