Manson 'storytelling' project and volunteers earn state excellence awards

Historic Manson Main Street Association's Heritage Storytelling Panel Project has received the Washington Main Street Program's 2026 Excellence on Main Award for Outstanding Special Project.
In addition, Manson volunteer Marci Trask was recognized as a Standout Volunteer for her ongoing efforts to help care for and beautify downtown Manson alongside her husband, Jonathan.
The Washington State Main Street Program is an initiative of the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation, which contracts with the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation to manage and operate the program. The Manson team was recognized during the closing event of the 2026 PLACES Conference, where entrepreneurs, community leaders, organizers, and preservationists from across Washington gathered to celebrate excellence in downtown revitalization and historic preservation.
Historic Manson Main Street Association President Kim Ustanik, Vice President Wayne Miller, and Wynd Metal Works owner and artist Alec Wynd proudly accepted the 2026 Excellence on Main Award for Outstanding Special Project during the awards ceremony. They were joined by Historic Manson Champions Marci & Jonathan Trask and Hailee Lehman, artist Kyndall Wynd, and Manson Community Council representative Gerry Ustanik.
"This project has truly been a collaboration of efforts, stories, and love for our community," said Ustanik. "Our board, champions, and residents came together to share Manson's identity and let the genuine friendliness of our community shine."
"We are committed to having fun and getting things done," added Miller.
"We love Manson and want to take the best care possible of our community," said Trask.
Over the last two decades, Manson has continued to cultivate and celebrate its unique identity. Community efforts have resulted in the Welcome to Manson monument, the Heritage Tree project, a memorable centennial celebration, the Manson Village Green community park and gathering space, Manson Dark Sky Initiative, and numerous seasonal and special events that attract residents and visitors alike to the Lake Chelan Valley. The Heritage Storytelling Panel Project now adds a permanent walking heritage trail through the community's downtown core.
Historic Manson Main Street Association's mission is to preserve and revitalize downtown Manson as a place of warmth, happiness, and community pride. The organization strives to create a welcoming gathering place for residents and visitors while celebrating the stories, history, and character that make Manson unique.
The Excellence on Main Awards are organized by the Washington State Main Street Program to recognize communities, organizations, and individuals helping create sustainable communities and economic vitality throughout Washington State through downtown revitalization and preservation.
