Manson Parks optimistic for Old Swim Hole, Dog Park redevelopment

Manson Parks needs the community’s input in realizing planned improvements to the Old Swim Hole and adjacent dog park. The project is approximately $375,000 short of paying for the work.
Parks Director Robin Pittman says more than $1.8 million in project funding is already secured, but without the remaining funds, the parks district risks losing grant funding and putting the project on hold for several more years.
Initial construction costs exceeded available funding, so Manson Parks made cost saving adjustments, and secured additional funding before returning the project to bid in September, only to find estimated costs still too high.
Pittman says supporters of the projects continue to search for private donations, community partnerships, and cost-saving opportunities.
"We've invested years of work into getting this project ready, and we're so close," said Robin Pittman, Director of Manson Park & Recreation District. "We're asking our community and anyone who believes in the value of public waterfront access to help us find a way to close this gap."
If the funding can be secured, the project is expected to be completed by June 2027, and will bring improvements to the waterfront, including:
· A new seawall with water-entry stairs and shoreline erosion protection
· An accessible ramp connecting the parking lot to the park
· A dock for non-motorized watercraft, including kayaks and paddleboards
· Paved parking stalls
· A safe pedestrian boardwalk connecting Old Swim Hole and Manson Bay Park.
The Old Swim Hole will remain a dog-friendly destination. Planned improvements are intended to preserve and enhance a valued community gathering place while improving accessibility, shoreline protection, and connections along the waterfront.
"We know this is a big ask, but we believe this project is worth fighting for," Pittman said. "If you've ever enjoyed the Old Swim Hole, value public access to Lake Chelan, or want to help preserve this place for future generations, we'd love to hear from you."
