The Chelan Post Office, 144 E. Johnson Ave., has been temporarily closed to the public.
A new roof is being placed on the building and, “A construction related issue has caused the building to become unsafe,” U.S. Postal Service spokesman Zachary Laux said Tuesday.
"The damage to the Chelan Post Office occurred in the retail section of the building. Both, the retail section and the PO Box section will be closed as the leased Chelan Post Office building undergoes repairs," Laux added. “As the facility undergoes repairs, the Postal Service is dispatching a mobile retail unit to Chelan where customers can utilize the mobile unit to pick up their PO Box mail during this time while also purchasing stamps and take advantage of other retail services.”
The mobile retail unit is currently stationed to the rear of the Chelan Post Office. Retail services are being developed, but P.O. box customers can still use the mobile unit to pick up their mail using a valid photo ID.
Carriers who work out of the Chelan Post Office will temporarily report to the Brewster Post Office to prepare mail for delivery in Chelan.
For any packages / notices / hold mail or signature required items: They will be available the next day at the Chelan Post Office at the mobile retail unit. Customers should bring a valid photo ID when picking up mail.
