Lake Chelan EMS Station and training center is first of its kind in the state
Over five decades of emergency medical services to the Chelan Valley, Lake Chelan Health Emergency Medical Services (EMS) opened the doors to their new 17, 874 sq. ft. facility at 110 S. Apple Blossom Drive in Chelan on Oct. 31.
It was a "grand open house" for the community to see through walking tours what the $15 million facility brings to enhanced emergency medical healthcare.
"This is going to help the community with our care and response, and improve staffing sustainability," said EMS Director Ray Eickmeyer. "We're excited about how this station meets the needs of the community today, but our plans for the future. (Including) a Community Paramedicine Program to help people stay healthy in their homes." The program assists an estimated 1,400 people annually.
EMS Station #1 and accompanying Summit Training Center, uses an augmented reality simulation room, and AI technology, the only emergency medical facility like it in the state." said Eickmeyer. "(it's) to improve the education of our nurses, our doctors and our EMS staff."
In training, simulated emergency scenes can be cast on a big screen, and using AI, the "emergency scene" may include accident victims and bystanders that can interact with personnel involved in the training exercise. Manikins and real people as patients may be used as well.
25 full time emergency medical professionals are on staff, who now have overnight accommodations and a gym. There are bays for seven ambulances.
"All these things to help create a strong EMS team to serve the community and that's what we're dedicated to do," added Eickmeyer.
The $15 million station and training center was paid ion large part by a $12 million state capital construction investment.
