The Chumstick and 207 highways are taking a beating during a U.S. Highway 2 daylight detour between Leavenworth and Stevens Pass.
"There's a lot of excessive abuse on the Chumstick highway right now," said Chelan County Commissioner Shon Smith on Monday when addressing concerns of highway residents. "It is painful and that additional traffic is tough. We will work with the DOT (Washington State Department of Transportation) to do what we can for speed reduction and for reminding those people that are travelling to Stevens Pass ski area that this is a neighborhood, this is a place where people live."
"Please slow it down," requested Smith. "This additional construction traffic is going to be a bother for a while."
