Extreme heat warning in effect in Chelan Valley

ree

If you felt it was hot on Monday, The National Weather Service predicts temperatures to rise Tuesday, before cooling off considerably on Wednesday.

"An extreme heat warning is in effect today," Meteorologist Jeremy Wolf said. "Chelan and Wenatchee will be hotter today than yesterday."

The official high temperature for Chelan, at the airport, was 99 Monday. Pangborn Airport registered 98 degrees.

Wolf says the prediction Tuesday is for Chelan to reach as hot as 103 degrees. 100 in Wenatchee.

You'll want to make sure you're doing what you can to stay cool and safe says Agustin Benegas at Lake Chelan Health Hospital.

"Most of us are indoors in AC for most of the day if we have it, but if we don't you'll want to have a fan to keep cool," said Benegas. "For those working outside you definitely want to be aware of signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. For heat exhaustion you may feel a little faint or dizzy, maybe a headache, confusion. Heat stroke is different. The absence of sweating, you have a pulsating headache, you have hot, red, dry skin, your body temperature really increases."

"Getting into a cool, shaded area, air conditioned place for example, drink some water," are possible remedies shared by Benegas. "Sometimes you can take a cold shower, wet yourself with a hose if its available, using something that is wet and cold, a compress or wet towel. If you're suffering from the heat you'll want to call 911."

Meteorologist Wolf notes that cooler, dry, windy weather will arrive on Wednesday, bringing with it a wildfire warning. He says the wind could whip up existing wildland fires.
