Dan Boon appointed to Chelan City Council
The newest member of the Chelan City Council is six-year resident, Dan
Boon. He’s a retired police chief from Pismo Beach and Truckee, California. He served 16 years on the Auburn police department, and prior to that in the U.S. Navy.
Boon introduced himself to his colleagues Tuesday night.
"In order to provide the best level of service one must first develop trust," Boon told the city council before they chose him to succeed former councilor Terry Sanders. "To gain trust one must first listen so they can better understand the communities' priorities. With trust comes respect, respect that when the time comes you will do what is right for the community."
Having worked in tourism-driven communities like Chelan, Boon says he’s committed to preserving the city's small-town character while improving communication between the Council and residents as the community continues to grow.
"I want to apply my strengths of working and living in other cities that have similarities to Chelan so we can take the best course of action for this community," Boon added.
Boon is a retired police chief from Pismo Beach and Truckee, Calif., and prior served 16 years on the police force in Auburn, Wash. He was interviewed soon after being hired as the first Chief of Police in Truckee.
He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and is a graduate from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Academy in Quantico, Va.
"I'm really feeling privileged to be here," said Boon, during his first public comment after being seated on the council. "Every time I've worked with staff they have been excellent. I just can't say that enough. I'm glad I'm here. I hope I don't let the people down."
