Collins, Laughlin are finalists for Chelan City Council

Shane Collins and Ben Laughlin are the two finalists for a soon to be vacated seat on the Chelan City Council.


The two received the most votes in yesterday’s primary election and will now face-off in the November general election for the right to succeed councilman Bob Goedde, who is retiring at the end of the year.


Collins with 38% of the vote, Laughlin with 35%.


Krysta Westmoreland and Aurora Flores will move forward in their interest in serving on the Manson School Board.


Westmoreland received 52% and Flores 37% of the votes cast in the primary election.


The Manson Fire Board of Directors has been increased from three to five members.


Chelan County Fire District 6, which serves Dryden, Blewett Pass and the surrounding areas, received voter approval to raise its levy rate for the first time since 1955.


Lake Wenatchee Fire & Rescue, or Chelan County Fire District 9, gained a thumbs-0up from voters to improve fire stations, equipment and wildfire mitigation through a $15 million bond.


Voters turned down the city of Wenatchee transportation sales tax proposal.


Voters in Douglas and Okanogan Counties, Public Hospital District No. 1, which operates Three Rivers Hospital, renewed a one-year special levy to pay for the maintenance, development and expansion of the district’s health care facilities.

It’s great to see strong community engagement in the local Retro Bowl elections and important funding measures, especially for fire safety and healthcare. Interesting race ahead for Chelan City Council - Collins vs. Laughlin will be one to watch in November.
