A 17-year-old boy was shot in Chelan Friday night, and a 14-year-old Chelan boy is suspected in the shooting.

Chelan County Sheriff’s Chief Ryan Moody says a deputy patrolling near South Emerson Street and East Wapato Avenue heard multiple shots fired.

Deputies contained an area around the Riverwalk Park parking lot and would locate a victim who had suffered a gunshot wound to his lower back.

Officers provided first-aid to the victim until Chelan EMS arrived.

After investigators collected witness statements and evidence from the scene, they were able to identify the alleged shooter.

Deputies said they spoke with the suspect and his mother by phone on Saturday and arranged for the teen to surrender. He was then booked into the Chelan County Juvenile Justice Center on two counts of first-degree assault.

Detectives have not made public a possible motive for the shooting, or recovery of the gun used in the incident.
