Chelan Union Valley blackened by brush fire

A brush fire that began Wednesday afternoon near Henderson Road on the north shore of Lake Chelan rapidly grew to an estimated 350 acres.

Chelan fire crews, with mutual aid from nearby agencies, super scooper aircraft, helicopters and an air tanker responded.

At one point, Level 3 evacuation orders were issued for residents in portions of Union Valley.

The National Interagency Fire Center reported at 8:19 p.m., Wednesday, that after a three-plus hour firefight, forward progress of the burn was stopped and a dirt barrier was around 80% of the fire.
