Heroic action by Chelan County Sheriff’s deputies led to the rescue of an injured man who has fallen into Icicle Creek.

The Sheriff’s Office on Friday released details of the rope rescue from the Jan. 3 incident where a vehicle had crashed along Icicle Road, but initially the driver couldn’t be found.

Deputies noticed impressions in the snow that looked like the driver had fallen off of the roadway and tumbled down into the creek below.

With Deputy Wyatt Walker securing a rope at the top of a steep rocky embankment, Deputy Zac Moran rappelled down to the creek bed where the driver was located, stuck between some rocks and half submerged in chilly water. Deputy Moran was able to free the driver from the rocks and assisted the driver back up the steep embankment.

The driver, not identified by Sheriff’s deputies, was treated at Cascade Medical Center for hypothermia.
