Chelan Middle School teacher named Advisor of the Year

The Association of Washington Student Leaders (AWSL) has recognized  Jamie Mack, 7th Grade Social Studies teacher and ASB/Leadership Advisor at Chelan Middle School, as the 2025 AWSL Northeast Middle-Level Advisor of the Year.

Now in her third year leading student activities, Jamie has become a beacon of inspiration in the Chelan community, championing student voice, celebrating student leadership, and creating a culture where students feel seen, safe, and empowered.

AWSL Director James Layman shared, “Jamie Mack is the kind of advisor who makes middle school not just memorable, but meaningful. Her commitment to creating a positive culture, with student leadership at its center, is unmatched. She constantly champions student voice, encourages inclusion, and leads with a deep belief in all students as leaders. Jamie’s heart, creativity, and consistency have made a lasting impact on her school and her students. She is so deserving of this honor.”

Jamie’s leadership philosophy: “The job of a leader is to lift others around you.” She models this by holding her students to high standards of character, encouraging them to take ownership of their accolades, and helping each student realize their power to lead.

Jamie’s leadership program includes student created  weekly video announcements, organizing assemblies, and community initiatives like clothing and food drives for Chelan Valley Hope.

Student empowerment is a hallmark of Jamie’s approach. She also ensures students have access to opportunities, including attending the AWSL student leadership conference in Okanogan, a trip she plans to repeat with a new group of students.
