A Federal Way man fell off a cliff along the Lakeshore Trail Monday afternoon, suffering cuts and possible broken ribs.

Chelan County Sheriff’s Sgt. Rob Huddleston says the 76-year old was assisted by Lake Chelan EMS paramedics stationed at Stehekin, who along with Manson firefighters and sheriff’s deputies, who arrived by boat, used what’s called a “steep angle rope system” to rescue the man. He was taken by a sheriff’s marine vessel to Lucerne where he was transported by air to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

A re-ignited wildland fire near the intersection of highways 2 and 17 caused the evacuation of the Sun Lakes Campground on Monday. The fire jumped the highways in places, and as of Monday night had burned 3,400 acres in both Douglas and Grant counties.
