Chelan County Undersheriff Dan Ozment recently graduated from the FBI National Academy.

He was one of only four law enforcement leaders from Washington State selected to attend this session of the FBI National Academy.

Attendance is by nomination and highly competitive selection by the FBI, bringing together law enforcement leaders from across the United States and around the world for advanced leadership training and professional development.

Undersheriff Ozment focused his coursework on community engagement, media relations, contemporary challenges in law enforcement operations and wellness—with the goal of bringing back knowledge and best practices of public safety services.

“It was an incredible honor just to be nominated, but being selected to attend the FBI National Academy has been the greatest professional opportunity of my life. Learning from accomplished instructors and law enforcement leaders from across the country and around the world was truly life changing. I’m grateful for the experience and look forward to bringing what I learned back to the Sheriff’s Office and the communities we serve,” said Ozment.

Upon his return to Chelan County, Ozment reported that the Sheriff's Office will be receiving financial support from the U.S. Department of Justice for deputy use of “less lethal’ arms, often times a preference to subdue criminals.

"It's about $735,000 that we don't have to charge the taxpayers, that we need to get more tools for our deputies and supervisors out on the road to make sure we have more less lethal encounters," Ozment shared.
