Chelan County Sheriff's detectives, and county police officers are taking an “all hands” approach to investigating the murder of three young girls, allegedly by their father, Travis Decker, 32, of Wenatchee.
Decker is accused of suffocating his daughters and leaving their bodies near a remote campground off Icicle Road west of Leavenworth. The Chelan County Coroner is conducting autopsies on the victims to determine the time of the deaths and other details.
"We have been working tirelessly," said Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison at a Wednesday press conference. "We're staying motivated and getting results that the family expects out of us. We've been following leads thanks to the FBI and their analysis team. We've been assigning detectives to go out and do interviews (with family and friends of the suspect)."
Sightings of the suspect have not proved fruitful. Neighboring county law enforcement officers are checking trailheads leading out of Chelan County.
"We are feeling optimistic," added the Sheriff.
Forensics evidence search continues on the suspect’s recovered pick-up. A detective with expertise in electronic forensics has been "Going through the cell phone and other electronic items we've collected at the scene," said Morrison.
The Sheriff says ground and aerial search efforts continue, with use of a Spokane County helicopter accompanying a Chelan County Sheriff helicopter, flying over the crime scene and surrounding areas on Wednesday. A Chelan County Sheriff's Swift Water Rescue Team was deployed to search Icicle Creek.
Local residences and neighboring counties are being scoured for any leads to finding Decker.
New information has revealed the suspect is well versed in wilderness survival and capable of spending days or even weeks in the wilderness on his own and with very little equipment. Although this can be a challenge while searching for him, Sheriff Morrison emphasized local detectives are well equipped and
prepared to seek and apprehend him.
