Chelan County requests the Governor to urge aid to Stehekin

A formal request by Chelan County to Washington Governor Bob Ferguson to urge the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers to bring their expertise to Stehekin to shore-up Company Creek Road, washed out by a re-directed Shehekin River from the December 2025 storm and flood event.

The request to the Governor is for the regional Army Corp of Engineers hydrologists to bring in their "advanced measures assistance."

"The advanced measures is technical assistance that can br provided to landowners," Chelan County Natural Resources Director Mike Kaputa reported to the commissioners on Monday. "And what's called in the letter, direct assistance, would be actual construction assistance that the Corp would provide."

"There's a huge threat of flooding this spring, as the Stehekin River is overflowing there," County Commissioner Brad Hawkins said, with as many as 25 homes impacted. "We really need to stabilize the bank there and protect those homes."
