The Chelan County Fire Marshal will be asking the county prosecutor to bring a citation of burning during a burn ban against an individual believed to be responsible for starting an over two-acre grass and brush fire along Highway 28, off Alkali Way, near Malaga on Sunday.
"They were burning some garbage, some weeds, and also construction material," Fire Marshal Chris Pederson advised the Chelan County Commissioners on Monday. "This property is notorious for burning early in the morning and at night because they have been told they are not allowed to burn."
"We have video, we have witnesses," Pederson added. "This is also being turned into the state (Washington Department of Natural Resources) for reimbursement (costs) for the fire apparatus and everything, and those fire drops are about $10,000 a drop."
The county did not divulge further details on where they believe the fire started are who was allegedly responsible.
