An investment in the community was made by the Chelan City Council Tuesday night. $120,000 in annual community benefit grants were awarded to eight local organizations.

·        Thrive Chelan Valley, $35,000

·        Chelan Valley HOPE, $35,000

·        Lake Chelan Food Bank, $15,000

·        Only 7 Seconds, $12,500

·        Meals on Wheels, $9,000

·        Chelan Valley Community Nurse, $8,000

·        Special Olympics, $5,000

·        Chelan Valley Connect, $500

“All of these are very worthy,” said councilor Shane Collins. “It seemed like the allocation was evenly dispersed.”

“All of these organizations are great,” added city councilmember Terry Sanders.

The city grants funding to local non-profit organizations dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Chelan for projects and programs that align with the city’s goals of fostering a vibrant, connected, and sustainable community.

The grants come from property and sales tax revenues, City Administrator Laura McAloon stated Tuesday night. Previously it was reported that some of the proceeds come from license fees paid by short term rental properties.
