Join the Chelan County Commissioners for their fall community meetings

• Tuesday, Oct. 14: Commissioner Kevin Overbay, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Three Lakes Estates Clubhouse, 3053 Sands St. in Malaga.

• Wednesday, Oct. 15: Commissioner Brad Hawkins, noon to 1 p.m. in the board room of Chelan PUD, 203 Olds Station Road. (Also available via Zoom. See the Zoom information below.)

• Thursday, Oct. 16: Commissioner Shon Smith, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lake Wenatchee Rec Club, 14400 Chiwawa Loop Road.

Joining commissioners will be department directors from Community Development, Public Works, Economic Services, Natural Resources and the County Administrator's Office.

Much of the fall meetings will be focused on the Chelan-Douglas Regional Port Authority's proposal to create a new Tax Increment Financing District (TIF) in Malaga. Property tax revenues from within the district would pay for infrastructure improvements for new private development into the future. Part of the discussion will be on the financial impacts on the county as well as other taxing districts.

The commissioners have called upon the regional port to publicly withdraw its TIF proposal, begin a year-long community outreach process and determine a

reasonable pathway forward on any future TIFs that do not re-distribute future tax revenues from other taxing districts.
