Chelan City Administrator Wade Farris has announced his retirement. He will serve the city until the end of October.

The City Council was informed of Farris’ decision Tuesday night, applauding a distinguished public service career that spans more than five decades, having guided Chelan through a period of growth and transition.

Farris joined the City of Chelan in 2020, following similar roles in Othello and Gig Harbor, plus a 39-year career in the United States Air Force.

“I am incredibly thankful that Wade agreed to stick with us after his four years with Mayor Goedde. Wade has been a steady hand and a trusted leader for the City of Chelan,” said Mayor Erin McCardle. “His dedication to public service, his calm approach to problem-solving, and his commitment to community have made a lasting impact. I am grateful for his service and wish him all the best in this well-earned retirement.”

"Wade has been a steady hand and I appreciate all the effort you've put into the city," Chelan City Councilman Tim Hollingsworth told Farris Tuesday night. "Best of luck in your new adventures, I think you've earned it."

"I'm sorry to see you go, but I'm happy for ya," Councilman Brad Chitty added.

The City of Chelan will begin the recruitment process for a new City Administrator in mid-May. The position will be posted on the City’s website. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership skills, a collaborative management style, and a commitment to public service—someone who can guide the day-to-day operations of the City, work closely with elected officials and staff, and serve the needs of Chelan’s residents, businesses, and visitors.

Community engagement, strategic planning, and organizational excellence will be key priorities as the City looks for a leader who can build on Wade Farris’ legacy and help shape Chelan’s bright future.
