State joins local firefighters for clear and present danger of Chelan and Okanogan wildland fires

Evacuation advisories were posted Wednesday night by Chelan County Emergency Management on two new wildfires that ignited at mid afternoon yesterday.

The largest fire at over 2,000 acres is the Apple Acres Fire, consuming grass and brush along Apple Acres Road and Antoine Creek Road. The fire has burned an area south of Pateros, in both Okanogan and Chelan counties.
At the request of Chelan Fire and Rescue Chief Brandon Asher, Washington State has mobilized fire assistance, manpower and equipment, to assist local firefighters. Firefighters focused last night on an area along State Route 97 to the Wells Dam entrance.
The White Pine Fire, along State Route 2 near Lake Wenatchee, has scorched about 10 acres. This fire is along Merritt, White Pine and Gill Creek Roads.
Then there’s the smoldering Pomas Fire in the Glacier Peaks Wilderness has burned 1,910 acres.
