A spark plug for the Manson Community, the Chelan Valley and its businesses, Thyra "Timi" Starkweather has announced her retirement as the Executive Director of the Manson Chamber of Commerce. She plans to relinquish her years-long position at the end of the year.

Starkweather shared her plans with the Chamber board this week, and will now assist with planning a transition for the Chamber and its mission of supporting business growth and the local economy.

"Looking for someone who really understands connecting the dots," Starkweather said when asked who she hopes the Chamber finds in her successor. "With Manson One Voice (Coalition) that we've created in this past year, it's just been a tremendous boost to our community, I believe, in terms of connecting everybody. All the stakeholders had a say in where they think Manson should be going in the next 5, 10, 15, 20 years."

"I see connectiveness, I see people working together for a common thing; let's make Manson more than it has been," said Starkweather when asked to recollect her greatest accomplishments. " You see businesses moving in here, you see a new vibrancy. We have a brand new Community Council; they're go-getters and they're really stepping up to the plate. It's been a herculean year for everyone."

Starkweather said she'll be busy between now and the end of the year. Boosting the economic climate of the community, and getting married, with a celebration planned for November 5th.  She and her soon-to-be husband plan to reside in Manson.

"We aren't going anywhere," exclaimed Starkweather. "We'll probably do more events as retirees. We're very social people."

A lovable new face joined the Manson community this past summer. Manny the Moose, the star of a children’s book authored by Starkweather with an aim to inspire, delight, and celebrate what makes Manson so special.

In Manny the Moose Finds Manson, readers are introduced to an orphaned moose who bravely swims across Lake Chelan from the south shore in search of friendship and belonging. What he finds is a charming lakeside town full of quirky quail families, supportive new friends, and plenty of heart.

The story is more than just an adventure—it’s a tale of courage, community, and the beauty of finding home. Manny’s journey will warm hearts and offer a gentle message about overcoming fear and discovering the joy of connection.

“Manny represents the spirit of Manson—welcoming, adventurous, and full of heart,” Starkweather, told Lake Chelan Now. “We’re thrilled to introduce this character not just through story, but as a community mascot that brings families together.”
