Orchardists and agricultural land owners can now place short term rentals on their Chelan properties. Specific provisions to construct and operate Short Term Rentals (STR) in special use districts were adopted Tuesday by the Chelan City Council.
"The minimum acreage to allow for a short term rental that is agriculturally based would be five acres," said Chelan community Development Director John Ajax.
"It would allow folks in the special use district to have short term rentals to augment existing agricultural based operations," said Councilman Tim Hollingsworth following the council approval of the new regulations. "To provide an incentive to keep that open space."
"I think it's the best possible outcome given the heightened emotions over the issue," Added Hollingsworth. "I just hope that there's enough incentive there for people to take advantage of it. The alternative to that is cookie-cutter developments with much higher densities."
