Chelan County law enforcement officers receive DOJ award

Chelan County Sheriff’s Office Drug Task Force Detective Brett Peterson received The U.S. Attorney's Award for his part in a joint investigation involving local and federal agencies, that resulted in the indictment of more than 30 defendants for offenses ranging from carjacking and kidnapping.

“Operation Downwind” lead to law enforcement uncovering large-scale drug and firearms trafficking, aggravated identity theft, and production of counterfeit currency.

The investigation has also resulted in pending civil forfeiture actions on several drug houses in the Wenatchee area.

Also receiving well-deserved awards for this same operation were fellow task force member, East Wenatchee Police officer Josh Virnig and Wenatchee Police Kevin Battis.

The Chelan county Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook, “Without the hard work of our local task force, these types of high volume arrests would not be possible.”
