Preparedness starts at Home.

  • Walk The Perimeter Of Your Home And Check For Debris.

  • Clean Up Dead Leaves And Branches.

  • Create A “Buffer Zone” Between Your Home And The Surrounding Vegetation To Reduce The Risk Of Fire Damage.

  • In Landscaping, Choose Plants That Carry A High Moisture Content And Use Stone Or Rocks Near The Base Of Your Foundation To Create A Defensible Space In Case Of Fire.

  • Move Any Wood Piles That Are Stacked Next To Your Home Or

  • Garage And Place Them Away From Structures On Your Land.

As we prepare for the fire season, make sure to have an evacuation plan.

  • Have Plenty Of Working Flashlights On Hand, Fresh Batteries, Face Masks To Protect Your Breathing, Portable Cell Phone Chargers, Sufficient Canned Food And Plenty Of Drinking Water.

  • You May Think About Purchasing A Generator Or If You Already Have One, Make Sure It Is In Top Working Condition.

  • As We Get Closer To The Summer Months, Be Sure To Keep Your Gas Tank Full In Case You Have To Leave Quickly.

Campfires are special, but let's make them safe too!

  • Before Heading To Bed Or Leaving A Campsite, Use Water Or Smother It With A Shovel And Dirt To Put The Fire Completely Out. Brought To You By The DNR, The U.S.

  • Forest Service, The Lake Chelan Chamber, Firefighter 1 And The Washington State Council Of Firefighters.

Tools can cause a quick spark.

  • A Lawnmower Hitting A Rock Can Cause A Spark And Setting Down A Weed Trimmer On Dry Grass Can Start A Fire!

Make sure you can defend your Home.

  • Create A Defensible Space Without Trees, Brush And Debris Around Your House To Protect It From Wildfires.

Before your head out for a summer trip, take a moment to check your trailer.

  • Ensure Your Tires Are In Good Shape, Bearings And Axles Are Greased And Safety Chains Are Not Dragging.

Barbeques are a summer staple, but they can pose a wildfire risk.

  • Keep Grills Away From Flammable Materials, Always Supervise And Have A Water Source Nearby.

Help us fight fires: avoid lakes, rivers, and the sky.

  • During A Wildfire, Please Keep Drones Out Of The Sky And Boats Out Of The Middle Of Lakes And Rivers.

  • Planes And Helicopters Need To Have Open Access To The Sky And Water In Order To Fight The Fire.
