[7/18/16] BACK TO BACK FATALITIES IN CHELAN
Chelan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating back to back vehicle fatalities that occurred over the weekend in the Chelan Valley.
Chelan County Sheriff Deputies responded to a single vehicle accident on Friday, July 15 – shortly after 8PM – arriving deputies and EMS personnel found 3 vehicle occupants, 2 (including a 2 year old girl) were ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Eduardo Uvalle, died of his injuries at the scene. As of Saturday, the 2-year old girl was listed in critical condition at a Seattle hospital.
Almost exactly 24-hours later, on Saturday, July 16, Rivercom Dispatch received a call of a vehicle vs. motorcycle accident 2.5 mile up Apple Acres Road from the Chelan Airport. It was soon discovered, it was actually a bicyclist and the reporting party stated the male was deceased. The vehicle that struck the bicyclist fled the scene and was described as possibly being a red truck with extensive damage to the front end and possibly a broken windshield. The bicyclist was identified as 50 year old, Gary Knowlton of Brewster. His next of Kin have been notified. While riding his bike at this location, the suspect vehicle, also going the same direction, struck Knowlton from behind.
The suspect vehicle was found abandoned in Okanogan County Sunday evening and detectives are looking for the driver of that vehicle.
