[8/11/16] Remembering Chelan Complex Fire As We Hit One Year Mark

We are just a few days away from the one year anniversary of the fires here in the Chelan Valley, that would eventually become the Chelan Complex fire.

The incident unfolded in the early morning hours of Friday, August 14th- when lightning sparked multiple fires throughout the valley.

Those fires moved swiftly – and by that afternoon, most roads surrounding the Chelan Valley, were closed- mostly due to lack of visibility from the smoke. KOZI was in contact with Jeff Adamson, with Washington State Department Transportation, as crews were out closing off those roads…

Shortly after that interview- at about 5PM on Friday, August 14, 2015, the valley experienced a wide spread power outage…

By the following morning, KOZI was back up and running, thanks to a generator provided by Chelan County Emergency Management, though it would take a day or more for the majority of customers to regain their power.

By Sunday, August 16 – fire managers were holding daily media conferences to accommodate the influx of reporters and TV crews in town from throughout the state, and beyond.
