WALTER ON CHANGES IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

It was a small crowd Thursday afternoon for the community meeting at Chelan City Hall hosted by Chelan County Commissioner Tiffany Gering. Those who were there heard from Gering, Public Works Director Eric Pierson, Natural Resources Director Mike Kaputa, and new Community Development Director Deanna Walter, who said she's leading her department to what she called “smoother waters.” She said changes are coming through the new building official:

Walter said her department will hit the goal of shorter turnaround times on permits: two weeks on residential permits and 30 days on commercial permits. She says they will hit that goal for two reasons: they are streamlining the process, and they will no longer accept partial submittals:

Walter said her department is committed to customer service, but she added that does not mean the customer will always be happy.
