A reminder that Chelan County has imposed weight restrictions to protect our roads throughout the county, something of an annual event as our cold weather begins to give way to warmer temperatures. Areas affected include roads in Manson, Chelan, Entiat, as well as Cashmere and Leavenworth. Chelan County Spokesperson Jill FitzSimmons says the restrictions begin when we see freezing temperatures overnight, followed by higher temperatures during the day, creating a cycle of freezing and thawing on a daily basis. How long the restrictions remain in place is, of course, weather dependent. FitzSimmons says they leave the decision to their foremen who are on the frontlines to determine where and when restrictions can be lifted, though most restrictions will last for several weeks or longer. Only emergency vehicles, school buses or vehicles with a special permit issued by the County Engineer are exempt from the restrictions.
