Plans are coming together for a winter sports facility in Pateros. What is being called the North Central Washington Sports Rink and Event Center will be constructed on Pateros School District property along the Columbia River. The effort has been underway for a couple of years, but activity is beginning to pick up; Sports Rink and Event Center Board Chair and President Holly Bange says they've been getting grants recently to develop the project:

The project has gotten support from the Seattle Kraken; Bange and Trocano see it as an economic boom to the area that can bring tourism and business, and new recreation opportunities that can complement Winthrop and Chelan:
