The next time you drive between Chelan and Wenatchee using the Douglas County side, be aware that that stretch of state highway has a new name: the World War II Veterans Memorial Highway. Here's State Department of Transportation Spokesperson Lauren Loebsack:
Renaming the highway is mainly the work of Douglas County veteran David Schwab, who began the effort more than a year ago. The signs on the highway went up earlier this week. Loebsack says this is not the only section of highway in the northwest with that name:
Our research shows similarly named stretches of highway in other states, including Oklahoma, Virginia, Michigan, Wisconsin and New Jersey.
