MOTORCYCLIST AIRLIFTED TO SEATTLE AFTER ACCIDENT NEAR MAZAMA

A motorcyclist sustained serious injuries following a collision with an SUV on Sunday morning along State Route 20, just west of Mazama. The identity of the 45-year-old Bellingham man involved in the accident is being withheld due to the severity of his injuries.

According to authorities, the incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. when a 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle attempted to overtake a 2011 Honda Element SUV. The SUV had slowed down to execute a left-hand turn when the motorcycle collided with its driver's side. The impact resulted in both vehicles coming to a stop on the right shoulder of the road. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Emergency responders promptly airlifted him to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle to receive urgent medical attention. Fortunately, the occupants of the SUV, identified as 41-year-old Sarah Gilman from Winthrop and 61-year-old Ann Diamond from Mazama, emerged from the incident unharmed.

The authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
