The Lake Chelan School District will be sending out a survey in a couple of weeks to get your opinion about its facilities, and what needs to be improved. Superintendent Brad Wilson has said that most of the district's facilities are in need of upgrading or replacement. The survey will detail costs on possible actions; Wilson stressed the need to do something about MOE Elementary, either bring it up to standards, demolish it and build a new school on the same property, or build a new school on the 12 acres of property the district owns near Walmart:
Wilson was asked what would happen to the current MOE facility if the district decided to move the elementary school up to near Walmart:
What could that property be used for – perhaps affordable housing? Wilson wasn't sure:
On a personal note, some years ago I visited some friends in Brooklyn NY who lived in what used to be the gymnasium of an elementary school. Anyway, the district's will send a copy of the newsletter to everyone in the community so that more than what Wilson calls those in the “school bubble” can participate. The survey may also be put on the district's website sometime this week.
