The Chelan Valley Housing Trust has been busy putting together new projects for affordable housing in the valley. Their first project, Emerson Village, opened several years ago with five homes behind the corner of Emerson and Chelan. They're working on two homes on Iowa Street behind the high school, six homes on Nixon Street in South Chelan, and the Chelan Heights development with up to 45 mixed income homes. A lot of the projects have been developed on land that has been donated to the Housing Trust, and they're looking for more. Housing Trust board member Arlene Abbott:
Abbott says the work of the housing trust is geared towards economic development, noting a 2017 survey by the Community Hospital that showed 40 percent of their employees did not live in the Chelan area:
The Housing Trust is partnering up with Rotary Club for a fundraiser September 30th at Lark Hill; they'll share the proceeds, the Housing Trust for affordable housing, and Rotary will use their share for their annual Promise scholarship.
