GERING ON GRIZZLY BEAR REINTRODUCTION

Chelan County Commissioner Tiffany Gering is in North Bend today (Tuesday), attending a meeting dealing with the reintroduction of grizzly bears in the North Cascades. The meeting is being spearheaded by the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee, which supports the delisting of grizzly bear populations.

Chelan County has opposed reintroducing grizzlies and has been active in commenting to the National Park Service on the matter; Gering says the Park Service told the county last year the question was not if, but when grizzlies would be put back into the North Cascades. She says the county has been working to coordinate with the surrounding counties that will be dealing with the impact of reintroduction:

Other counties to be impacted by the reintroduction of grizzlies to the North Cascades include Okanogan, Skagit, Snohomish, and Whatcom counties.
