FOREST SERVICE PROJECTS IN ENTIAT RIVER

The U.S. Forest Service will be starting a few projects in the Entiat River area next month, and that will result in some closures near the Silver Falls Campground. The stream restoration project is going to restore fish habitat for some of the native, endangered and threatened fish species. Forest Service fisheries biologist Mariah Mayfield:

Mayfield also says they'll be moving logs by helicopter down the river July 16th through the 19th, she says they won't fly over homes or the road, but she says it should be pretty cool to watch. There's a beaver restoration project coming up done in conjunction with Trout Unlimited and the Cascadia Conservation District:

Mayfield says they don't keep track of the beaver population, but there has been a decline in them over time:

Mayfield says if you see their crews working, you're free to stop and ask questions about what they're doing; you can also stop by the Ranger District office to find out more information.
