At last week's community meeting at the Chelan Fire Station, Chelan County Jail Director Chris Sharp said the facility is still dealing with the COVID pandemic, and hoping his corrections officers don't have to go back to wearing their masks; Sharp said they had been wearing masks up until two months ago, which was tough from an emotional standpoint because the outside world had stopped wearing masks, but also because inmates were also required to put on masks, and they don't like to follow rules. But Sharpe said they're getting past COVID:
Sharpe said about 70 percent of those coming into the jail have Fentanyl in their system. He added that a corrections officer's job has gone beyond simply walking the floors of the jail and making sure things are safe and secure; now they walk the floors and make sure people are alive.
