Time is running out to get your application for a camping permit in the Enchantments area of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Only 2,700 camping spaces are available from May 15th through October 31st, with applications being accepted until Wednesday, March 1st. Odds of getting a space continue to shrink with so many applications, last year there were around 39,000 vying for a chance to enjoy the Enchantment camping opportunity and only about 7% of last year's applicants received a camping permit through the lottery. Permits allow groups of up to eight people to camp overnight in one of five designated zones. Permits are also required for day and overnight use in the area. The lottery drawing will take place on March 8th, at 1:55 AM. The Enchantments are accessible off of Icicle Road with a parking area 13.5 miles southwest of Leavenworth. Should you win a space in the Enchantments or choose to visit other areas of the Cascade mountains, you're reminded the weather can vary. May, June, September and October are considered "shoulder seasons" and visitors can expect to encounter snow and winter-like conditions. All visitors are encourage to check the weather and be prepared for all weather types throughout the season.
