CARDIAC SCREENING EVENT FOR YOUTH COMING UP

We're giving you plenty of advance notice on this, because it's important, and it may never come around again. It's a cardiac screening event for young people, Lake Chelan Health EMS Coordinator Ray Eikmeyer says it's being put on by the Nick of Time Foundation:

Sudden Cardiac Arrest is not a heart attack, it's an abnormality in the heart’s structure or electrical system that can be detected with a simple EKG. But EKGs are NOT a part of a teen’s annual well-child or pre-participation sports physical. All students are at risk, not just athletes. Every year thousands of kids die when their heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating. It can happen without symptoms or warning signs. Eikmeyer says the foundation wants to prevent that from happening:

The cardiac screening event is Friday June 2nd at Chelan High School, Manson and Entiat High Schools are participating as well, busing their kids to take part. The screening will take about 40 minutes, and every youth that takes part will receive hands-only CPR and AED training, and learn what to do in an emergency. It's for youth from 12 to 24 years old, you can sign them up at nickoftimefoundation.org.
