Things are back to normal at Whaley's General Store in downtown Chelan, that after Fire and Rescue made a big response yesterday around 2 p.m. to what was thought to be a commercial fire. But Fire Chief Brandon Asher told us later was a burning old ballast. But it brought out the big ladder truck, an ambulance and the sheriff's office closed down Woodin street from Emerson to Saunders. The ballast filled the store with smoke, and Asher said it took some time to find out just where the smoke was coming from. Asher said that those can be issues in older buildings. But once the ballast was found, the smoke was cleared, and Whaley's was back in business.
