A tragic accident Wednesday morning after a two car collision left two people dead and put three others in the hospital. The accident occurred on US highway 2 just outside of Leavenworth just after 8:30 Wednesday morning in Tumwater Canyon. According to the State Patrol, 79 year old Petar S. Kvenich and 75 year old Maria A Valkovich both of Chilliwack British Columbia died after the 2000 Honda CR-V they were in spun sideways and was struck by an oncoming 2013 Toyota RAV4 SUV. Those transported to the hospital included Elizabeth M. Fortin, 55, of Delta, British Columbia; she was identified as the driver of the CR-V. Leavenworth residents Roy M. "Mike" Worden, 68, and Lori E. Worden, 67, were also transported to Central Washington Hospital. Mike Worden, driver of the Rav4, is a consultant and retired U.S. Air Force major general who was was elected to the Cascade School Board in 2021. The State Patrol says the accident closed Highway 2 at Tumwater Canyon for just over two hours.
